Privacy policy
FRDRAFT — FOR LEGAL REVIEW. This text is not yet in effect.
Preliminary version, October 27, 2026
1. Who we are
SurgeRadar is a web app that predicts where and when rideshare surge pricing is likely around large events in Montréal. SurgeRadar is not affiliated with Uber or Lyft and has no access to their systems.
Person in charge of the protection of personal information: [NAME, TITLE], [EMAIL]. [TO COMPLETE]
2. Your location
We ask for your location only after you tap “Use my location”, and only to show nearby zones and work out a walking route.
Your location is processed on your device. We don’t send it to our servers and we don’t store it. To show the street name of a suggested pickup spot, we send only the approximate hexagonal area of that spot (about 0.1 km²), never your position.
You can also set your position by hand on the map without granting location access.
3. Links to Uber, Lyft and maps
The “Check Uber”, “Check Lyft” and “Walking directions” buttons open those services with the pickup spot in the link. Once opened, that service’s privacy policy applies. These links carry no referral or affiliate codes.
4. Reports (upcoming feature)
If you choose to answer the post-trip questions, we will store your answers, the approximate hexagonal area (never your exact GPS position), the time relative to the end of the event and the weather.
To prevent duplicates, a random device identifier is stored in hashed form. It is deleted after [90] days. [PERIOD TO CONFIRM]
5. Advertising
SurgeRadar shows a single ad banner. By default, ads are not personalized. Personalized ads are turned on only if you expressly consent, and you can withdraw that consent at any time in the app.

6. Providers and technical data
Your device loads map tiles (map provider: [TO COMPLETE]) and Environment and Climate Change Canada radar images directly; those services see your IP address. Our host and database provider ([Railway]) may keep technical logs for security.
Some providers may process information outside Québec. We assess these transfers as the law requires before making them. [PRIVACY IMPACT ASSESSMENT TO BE COMPLETED]
7. Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your information, or withdraw your consent, by writing to the person in charge above. You can also file a complaint with the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
8. Predictions only
Everything SurgeRadar shows is a prediction. We never show Uber or Lyft prices and we don’t guarantee that any zone will be free of surge pricing.
9. Changes
We will post any change to this policy on this page, with its date.
